Durham University Parent-Infant Sleep Lab, with support from La Leche League, NCT, and UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative, has launched a new website – Infant Sleep Information Source, or ISIS.

The website has been designed to provide parents and health professionals with clear, evidence-based information on ‘normal’ sleep, defining normal as “what is biologically expected for humans”. It is hoped that this will help both parents who want to make informed choices about how their baby sleeps, and health professionals whose role is to support parents.

The website project is funded by a grant from the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) 'Follow-on Fund' to facilitate and support the translation of research conducted by UK and overseas researchers on issues regarding infant sleep (e.g. development, environments, safety) into an online informational resource.

The site contains information on:

  • Why babies sleep the way they do
  • Sleep development
  • Sleep training
  • Different sleeping environments
  • SIDS
  • Coping at night
  • Research evidence
