Soccer Aid 2012: a recap
On 27 May, England took on the Rest of the World in a thrilling match that helped save children’s lives. Two teams of celebrities and football legends, captained by Robbie Williams and Michael Sheen, went head to head at Old Trafford, Manchester for a chance to lift the Soccer Aid trophy.
We raised over £4.9 million for the world’s children as a result of Soccer Aid 2012. A huge thank you to all of you at home and to the UK Government for matching all donations pound for pound.
Much of the money donated for Soccer Aid 2012 has been used in Chad, Eritrea, Niger, Djibouti and Mauritania, where it's helped UNICEF health and nutrition projects improve survival rates among children under five.
Through Soccer Aid 2012, we've provided life-saving food for malnourished children, vaccines, and other essential drugs to treat diarrheal diseases and respiratory infections.
And that's not all. In 2013, around 400 community health workers will be trained ensuring more children are reached with life-saving interventions. This is all thanks to the generosity of the UK public, and the UK Government's matched funding for Soccer Aid.
Since 2006, Soccer Aid has raised over £12 million for the most vulnerable children.
Thank you for all your support. If you would still like to, you can donate and support our work for children.
